Canada – 17 March 2025 – AirHelp, the leading travel tech company supporting passengers with flight disruptions, today reveals that 10.3 million passengers across Canada suffered from disruptions when travelling on a plane between December 2024 and February 2025. With close to 160,000 registered flights departing from Canada, more than 16.2 million people planned a trip during this period.

Taking a closer look at AirHelp’s data reveals that approximately 40% of passengers incurred disruptions. While the majority of these delays were under three hours, meaning they are not eligible for compensation, over 580,000 Canadian passengers faced delays over three hours and were entitled to claim financial compensation from their airline.

What’s more, around 900,000 Canadian passengers had their flights cancelled during the winter months. February 2025 recorded the highest cancellation rate with 5.9% of passengers impacted. December followed behind at 2.0% and January showed the lowest cancellation rate at 0.8%.

When looking at the most disrupted routes from Canadian airports, with more than 20,000 passengers, Pearson International Airport to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport ranked the highest, with over 84% of flights disrupted during this period. Montreal-Trudeau International Airport to Hamad International Airport, in Qatar, and Montreal-Trudeau International Airport to Dubai Airport scored in second and third, with 68% and 65% of passengers impacted respectively.

Conversely, the most fortunate passengers were those travelling from Edmonton International Airport to Denver International Airport, with 89% departing on time. This is followed by Pearson International Airport to Abu Dhabi Airport at 85%, and Vancouver International Airport to Ninoy Aquino International Airport, in the Philippines, with 84% of passengers departing on time.
